RAPID CITY, S.D. – Two Rapid City men were arrested early Tuesday following a drive-through disturbance at a local restaurant, a police pursuit, and a foot chase.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 29, police were dispatched to the Taco Bell located at 1024 Endeavor Blvd. in Rapid City after receiving a report of a vehicle entering the drive-through in the wrong direction and getting into a disturbance with staff.
While officers were en route, the vehicle fled the area. A deputy with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near Elk Vale Road and Cheyenne Boulevard. The vehicle failed to stop and continued south on Elk Vale Road.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle until it stopped at the dead end at the north end of Neel Street. Both the driver and the passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot into a nearby open field.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Shawn Hill of Rapid City, was located lying in the field after tripping and knocking himself unconscious while running. The passenger, identified as 20-year-old Amos Prue of Rapid City, was apprehended a short time later.
After speaking with staff at the restaurant, police determined Prue and Hill had gotten into a disturbance with employees, during which Hill spit on an employee before leaving the scene.
Hill was determined to be too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. After being treated at the hospital, Hill was placed under arrest for charges including driving under the influence, sliming, obstruction, second-degree eluding, and an outstanding warrant. Prue was placed under arrest for obstruction and underage consumption of alcohol.
