LEAD, S.D. – Fire departments were called to battled a structure fire after flames broke out in a three-story home on the 600 block of Miners Avenue in Lead.

The Lead Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene on December 5, 2025, around 5:30 a.m. Responders arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the eaves of the house. Firefighters launched an immediate attack to knock down the flames and conducted an extensive search of house for possible victims as well as the source of the fire.

Other fire departments, including from Deadwood also responded. Upon entering the second floor of the home, they discovered fire above and below them. Firefighters then started focusing their efforts from outside the home by launching an exterior attack on the flames.

Fire inside the walls and in void spaces beneath the roof pitch required a thorough overhaul to extinguish remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported.
