RAPID CITY, S.D. – A former Rapid City gymnastics coach is headed to federal prison for possessing child pornography.
Twenty-six-year-old Hayden Sengua pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography in January of this year.
Since 2018, Sengua reportedly received more than 15-thousand files of child sexual abuse materials.
In court Monday, Sengua said he hoped the victims are able to heal from the damage he caused. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Rich said no children at the gymnastics center where he worked were harmed.
District Judge Camela Theeler cited the volume of material Sengua had and the fact that he had access to children he coached factored into her going into the upper end of the guideline range in her sentence.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday.
