RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Post 22 Hardhats battled through a close game Friday night at Fitzgerald Stadium, holding off the Yankton Post 12 Bucks Legion for a 4-3 victory. It was a game filled with big moments, strong defense, and plenty of excitement as fans packed the stands and cheered loudly from the first pitch to the final out.

The Hardhats came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning. After getting on base, Wyatt Reeder #18 ripped a triple, sending the crowd into a roar and giving Post 22 early momentum. The Hardhats took advantage of the opportunity and scored two runs in the opening inning to grab a quick 2-0 lead.

Yankton struggled to get its offense going early as the Hardhats kept the Bucks off the scoreboard through the first three innings. Strong pitching and solid defensive plays helped Post 22 stay in control while the dugout stayed energized and focused throughout the game.

In the bottom of the second inning, Wyatt Reeder #18 continued to put pressure on Yankton’s defense by stealing third base, showing off his speed and aggressive baserunning. Although the Hardhats didn’t add to their lead in that inning, the stolen base kept the momentum on their side.

Yankton finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the lead to 2-1 after pushing across a run. The Bucks weren’t finished, either. In the top of the fifth inning, Yankton added two more runs, briefly taking a 3-2 lead and putting the pressure on the home team.

The Hardhats answered immediately.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lars Kieffer #19 hit a hard ground ball that brought both Aiden Roberts #10 and Jason Reeder #3 safely home, giving Post 22 two crucial runs and putting the Hardhats back in front, 4-3. The clutch hit proved to be the difference in the game as the home crowd erupted with excitement.

Neither team scored in the sixth inning, setting up a tense final inning. Yankton looked for one last chance to tie or take the lead, but the Hardhats stayed composed on defense and recorded the final outs to secure the one-run victory.

While the scoreboard showed a one-run difference, the energy throughout Fitzgerald Stadium made the game feel even bigger. The stands were loud all night, matching the excitement coming from the Hardhats’ dugout. Every pitch, every hit, and every defensive play brought cheers from fans who stayed behind their team until the final out.

It was a hard-fought game from both teams, but the Hardhats showed determination, teamwork, and dedication when it mattered most. From Wyatt Reeder’s early triple and stolen base to Lars Kieffer’s game-winning ground ball in the fifth inning, Post 22 delivered the key plays needed to come away with an exciting 4-3 win over the Yankton Post 12 Bucks Legion.
