RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Post 22 Hardhats battled through seven intense innings Sunday afternoon at Fitzgerald Stadium before earning a thrilling 2-1 walk-off victory over Pueblo Azteca Gavin to win the Firecracker Tournament championship.

It was a pitchers’ duel from the very first pitch, with both teams playing strong defense and refusing to give up easy runs. Through the first four innings, neither team could find a way to score as every out became more important than the last.

Post 22’s starting pitcher, #24 Rowan Fredrickson , was outstanding on the mound. He kept Pueblo Azteca Gavin off balance throughout the game with strong command and confidence. Time after time, he worked out of tough situations and gave the Hardhats a chance to stay in the game. His performance kept the championship within reach and energized both his teammates and the crowd.

The game’s first run finally came in the top of the fifth inning when Pueblo Azteca Gavin broke the scoreless tie to take a 1-0 lead.

The Hardhats didn’t panic.

In the bottom of the fifth, Post 22 answered with a run of its own to even the score at 1-1. The response shifted the momentum back toward the home team and set up a dramatic finish.

Neither team scored during the sixth inning as both defenses continued to make big plays. Every pitch, every catch, and every at-bat carried extra pressure with the championship hanging in the balance.

The excitement reached another level in the bottom of the seventh.

With the game tied, #10 Aiden Roberts gave the Hardhats a huge spark by smashing a double that put a runner in scoring position. The hit brought the crowd to its feet and gave Post 22 the opportunity it had been waiting for all night.

A few batters later, #15 Reegan Turnquist came through in the biggest moment of the game. His clutch hit brought #10 Aiden Roberts home with the winning run, sending teammates racing out of the dugout to celebrate the walk-off victory.

The crowd erupted as the Hardhats celebrated at home plate after capturing another Firecracker Tournament championship.

The championship win was a true team effort. Strong pitching, solid defense, timely hitting, and patience at the plate helped Post 22 earn the title. Even after falling behind, the Hardhats stayed composed, trusted one another, and found a way to finish the job.

The victory showed why Post 22 continues to be one of the top baseball programs in the region. Every player contributed, whether by making key defensive plays, delivering important at-bats, or cheering on teammates from the dugout.

Winning the Firecracker Tournament in front of the home crowd at Fitzgerald Stadium made the celebration even more special. The Hardhats never stopped believing they could come back, and when the opportunity finally came in the seventh inning, they took advantage of it.

Behind a dominant outing from  #24 Rowan Fredrickson, a clutch double from #10 Aiden Roberts, and the game-winning hit from #15 Reegan Turnquist, the Post 22 Hardhats capped off an exciting tournament with a memorable 2-1 walk-off victory and the 51st Firecracker Tournament championship.
