MADISON, SD — Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP) continues to expand access to nutritious meals for seniors across Western South Dakota. Building on a rapid response effort launched in October 2025, ICAP is addressing critical gaps in meal availability for older adults in rural communities.
Over the past six months, ICAP has worked alongside community members, local leaders, and partner organizations to establish reliable meal delivery services in areas where access had been limited or unavailable.
Since launching service, ICAP has:
– Delivered nearly 10,000 meals across Western South Dakota
– Provided nearly 100,000 meals statewide through its senior nutrition program
– Engaged 30 volunteers in West River communities
– Mobilized more than 300 volunteers across South Dakota
To support this expansion, ICAP developed delivery routes, secured equipment, and built partnerships to ensure meals could reach seniors across large geographic areas.
ICAP has worked in partnership with organizations including Feeding South Dakota, Western South Dakota Community Action Partnership, and local community groups to strengthen logistics, distribution, and community-based support systems. These partnerships reflect a shared commitment across South Dakota to ensure seniors have access to reliable nutrition, regardless of geography, and have played a key role in extending services into rural and underserved areas.
ICAP’s approach is rooted in a people-first mission, combined with a strong focus on building partnerships and creating efficient, sustainable systems. By working collaboratively and using resources responsibly, ICAP is able to extend its reach and serve more individuals across rural communities.
Over the past six months, we’ve worked to build a system that ensures seniors have access to reliable meals, regardless of where they live. This effort reflects the strength of South Dakota communities coming together to meet local needs.
From Timber Lake to Hot Springs and throughout surrounding communities, ICAP staff and volunteers travel significant distances to deliver meals and support older adults in maintaining their independence.
ICAP’s work in Western South Dakota continues to evolve, with ongoing efforts focused on strengthening partnerships, improving efficiency, and expanding access to additional communities in need.
