Meade County Sheriff: Owner of hot rod found abandoned in trailer found

September 29, 2026
STURGIS, S.D. – Thanks to social media, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office was able to find the owner of a hot rod that was found abandoned in rural Meade County. Officials say the car was inside a trailer that they believe had been stolen. After putting out a social media bulletin about the find, the sheriff’s office was notified the car’s owner had been found. In their social media post, the sheriff’s department stated “We are making arrangements to return this incredible ride to its rightful owner. Somebody put time, talent, sweat, and hard-earned money into this build. Then somebody with the moral compass of a sewer rat apparently decided they were entitled to it.” It didn’t take long after the post for word to spread about the hot rod, which contained a very expensive Roush Racing motor. Authorities are still investigating how the trailer containing the special car ended up abandoned in rural Meade County. If you know anything, call the Meade County Sheriff’s Office at 605-347-2681.
