STURGIS, S.D. – Meade County Sheriff Pat West took a short time away from the hustle and bustle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Sunday evening by hosting the Law Enforcement Appreciation BBQ at Sturgis City Park. The picnic is held to honor the dedicated service of first responders who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts visiting Sturgis each year. The event also serves as a fundraiser to raise awareness and financial support for Meade County Cares, which is part of the Fraternal Order of Police, Northern Hills Lodge 12. The organization supports underprivileged children and assists deputies and staff in crisis year-round. This year’s auction featured several firearms, including a Cimarron Lonesome Dove Walker .44 Black Powder, Henry Custom Sheriff’s Rifle — .22 Caliber Octagon Barrel and a unique set of custom-made sheriff’s spurs. Sheriff West told attendees “we are proud to host this event to honor our first responders and support a vital cause in Meade County and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and the community, we’ve raised significant funds to continue supporting local families and our dedicated deputies.” Sheriff West welcomed Governor Larry Rhoden to this year’s picnic, along with Senator Mike Rounds and Attorney General Marty Jackley, who is a Sturgis native.
