DEADWOOD, S.D. – The highway patrol has identified two people from Colorado who died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash near Deadwood, South Dakota. Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 14A near mile marker 47. At the same time, 59-year-old Shawn Lee Rector of Frederick, Colorado, the driver of a 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide, was traveling east and failed to negotiate a turn. The Harley Davidson crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with the Jeep. Both Rector and his passenger, 54-year-old Susan Renee Rector, sustained fatal injuries. One of the Jeep’s passengers, Kirk August Miller, sustained minor injuries. U.S. Highway 14A was closed for approximately three hours. The investigation is ongoing.
