STURGIS, S.D. – In politics, Lisa Schieffer is announcing she is the independent candidate for Meade County Commissioner, District 1. In a release Monday, Schieffer wrote has more than three decades of public service experience. She was Meade County’s Republican Auditor for 28 years. In 2021, she accepted the city administrator position in Summerset. “My experiences have provided me with a strong understanding of both county and municipal government, fiscal responsibility, community needs, the challenges, and opportunities involved in serving our residents.” Schieffer explained, “I am running for Meade County Commissioner, District 1 because our rural communities deserve a strong, accessible voice in county government. The people who live and work here understand the value of hard work, responsible stewardship, and neighbors helping neighbors. Those values should help be a guide to the decisions made by the county commission.” Schieffer says she knows this area well. She was raised on a ranch, attended Mud Butte Country School, graduated from Newell High School, and earned her degree at Black Hills State University. “District 1 has challenges requiring practical, locally informed leadership. The people of District 1 know the challenges our communities face. I will work to maintain our local infrastructure, support farmers, ranchers, families, and small businesses, protect property rights and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent carefully and transparently.” “County government needs to listen first, communicate clearly, and focus on results. As commissioner, I would be available to residents, respectful of different viewpoints, and committed to making decisions based on what best serves the people of District 1 and Meade County as a whole. I will protect what we value, address our needs with common sense, and help build a strong future for the next generation.” The general election is Nov. 3. Share via: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn More
