Sturgis Council approves D.O.T. haul road on Southside Addition

October 6, 2026
STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council will consider approving an agreement with the Department of Transportation regarding a haul road that will be used during the construction of I-90 between Exit 32 and Exit 37. Sturgis Public Works Director Rick Bush says the D.O.T. had purchased the property from the city of Sturgis on the Southside Addition to provide borrow and fill material for the project. The agreement will allow the D.O.T. and its contractor to use a designated portion of the city’s roadway system as a haul road for transporting construction equipment and material from the former city property to the I-90 project. Bush says the agreement specifically notes that the newly paved city road will not be used as part of the haul route, but rather they will have some access across the undeveloped portion of the property.
