RAPID CITY, S.D. – Pennington County Search and Rescue is being credited with helping a stranded rock climber on Old Baldy Mountain. The climber got stuck on Saturday night. Pennington County Fire Services says crews were able to make contact with the hiker on the rock face and help the person back to the ground. No one suffered injuries in the rescue mission. “A major commendation goes out to the climbing party for making the right call: when a situation turns hazardous, remaining safely secured in place and calling for help—rather than attempting a risky self-rescue—makes all the difference in ensuring everyone goes home safe.” Pennington County Search and Rescue said.
