Car strikes couch on Highway 79

September 26, 2026
FAIRBURN, S.D. – The Fairburn Fire Department says a couch met an untimely demise on Highway 79 overnight. In a social media post, the fire department wrote that their new Rescue 10 rig had just returned from its first call, exactly one week after being put into service. The post said it “was a middle of the night, horrific, car vs couch accident on Highway 79 just west of Fairburn.” While there were no human injuries reported, tragically, the couch did not survive. Officials wrote “Fairburn volunteers had the gruesome task of gathering couch guts scattered across the pavement into 3 plastic body bags. The young lady driving the car will live with the memory of this night for the rest of her life.” Share via: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn More
