HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – The Hot Springs School District sent out a memo to parents yesterday after a firearm incident. In the memo, which was also shared on Facebook, School administration say they were notified of a situation Thursday afternoon, and the administrative team contacted law enforcement. A firearm was reportedly discovered in a car in the high school parking lot. The district say the Hot Springs PD responded immediately and secured the individual, the vehicle, and the firearm. They say the individual involved was not a Hot Springs student or staff. The school went into secure status, keeping all students in their classrooms until police cleared the scene. The district says at no time was there a threat to students or staff, and the firearm never entered the building. In the memo, the district wrote, “Student safety remains one of our top priorities, and we will continue to monitor all threats. The school district thanks the Hot Springs Police Department for their timely and professional response.” Share via: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn More
