STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Council members have approved the 2027 property tax levy and decided to take the maximum allowable under South Dakota Codified Law.

Sturgis City Administrator Rhea Crane says taking maximum allowable property tax amount will result in an estimated levy of approximately $4.23 per $1,000 of assessed property value, compared with approximately $4.09 per $1,000 for the previous levy.

The maximum request represents an increase of approximately $144,619 over the base property amount.

For $300,000 of taxable value, that represents an increase of nearly $55 per year.

The increase will give the city $3,358,370 in total maximum property tax allowable, over the $3,213,752 seen in the base property tax amount.
