STURGIS, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol says four people were injured when a driver entered Interstate 90 in the wrong direction Tuesday evening at Summerset, SD.
The names of the persons involved have not been released.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2007 Subaru Forester, a 22-year-old female from Rapid City, was traveling westbound in the eastbound passing lane on Interstate 90 near exit 48 when she collided head-on with an eastbound 2008 Honda Pilot. The Honda spun and flipped onto its roof. The Subaru then struck a 2008 Peterbilt head-on.
The driver of the Subaru sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries, as did the 41-year-old male driver and two passengers in the Honda. The occupants of the Honda were all from Box Elder.
The 43-year-old male driver of the Peterbilt was not injured. Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash.
