WHITEWOOD, S.D. – The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a shooting that happened overnight Saturday at an underage party in Whitewood.

According to a news release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call at 12:36 a.m. regarding a possible underage party at a residence north of Whitewood.

Deputies arrived at the residence and found a juvenile with a gunshot wound. Officers on scene began medical aid and requested an ambulance.

During the investigation, it was determined that 22-year-old William Westburg of Whitewood fired the weapon.

Westburg was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, social hosting and drug paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing.
