One year ago, we launched The Rapid City Post with a simple, audacious goal: to provide free, quality, and accessible news to our community. Today, as we celebrate our first anniversary, I am proud to say that the Post is thriving – because of you.

In just twelve short months, we have grown from a digital only experience into a multi-platform newsroom. From our website, email newsletter, and mobile app to the launch of our ‘RaPo Weekend Edition’ in print this past January, we are meeting you wherever you are. Our physical office in Rapid City has become a hub for connection with our parent company The HomeSlice Group. Our offices neighbor radio and podcast studios, allowing us to build vital relationships with leaders like Mayor Salamun, Brendyn Medina of the RCPD, and Bobbi Schaefbauer at Rapid City Area Schools. These connections ensure that the information we bring you is accurate, timely, and relevant.

Our coverage is also deepened by the distinct voices of our weekly columnists. Roger Baron, a legal veteran of 40 years, brings a sharp perspective to the law (and occasionally, a much-appreciated box of donuts to the office). Meanwhile, fifth-generation Meade County rancher Colin Duprel offers a grounded look at the current events shaping our region.

Despite our growth, with web traffic skyrocketing and over 40 free print locations, our core mission hasn’t changed: our content remains free. Whether you visit us online or pick up a paper in town, there is no cost to stay informed.

For those who wish to go further in supporting local journalism, we offer mailed subscriptions and digital e-editions for less than ten dollars. Your support, whether through a subscription, an advertisement, or a kind voicemail, means the world to our team.

We aren’t stopping here. Free media has a vital place in Rapid City, and we are honored to be your source for news.
