SPEARFISH, S.D. – Spearfish fire crews responded to a structure fire caused by lightning in the area of 7^th and Elgin Street Wednesday night.

Upon arrival, fire crews noticed smoke coming out of the roof of the structure and quickly made an aggressive interior attack.

Fire officials say difficult access to void spaces behind knee walls initially impeded their attack, but crews were able to keep the fire contained to the home’s attic and roof structure.

All residents and pets were safely evacuated from the home with no injuries to civilians or firefighters on scene.

Spearfish Fire Department was assisted by Deadwood Fire Department, Whitewood Fire Department, Spearfish Police Department, Spearfish Fire Department Auxiliary, Whitewood Fire Department Auxiliary, Lawrence County Emergency Management, Black Hills Energy, and MDU.
