STURGIS, S.D. – Numerous local law enforcement agencies converged on Sturgis Coffee Monday morning – all for a good cause.

It was Coffee with a Cop, a chance for local patrons to sit down with local law enforcement and ask questions.

Sturgis Police Geody Vandewater says the event provided an opportunity to meet with local officers and dispatchers in a casual setting with no agenda.

“There’s no agenda, no politics here today,” Vandewater said. “This is a great chance to just sit and visit and ask us questions or if you want to meet us, or if just want to talk about any topics that concern you. For us, it’s a great chance to build our relationships with the community.”

Vandewater says they are planning another Coffee with a Cop event for July.

Participating in Monday’s event were members of the Sturgis Police Department, Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County Dispatch, Summerset Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol and even Game, Fish and Parks.

Some former law enforcement officers were also on hand Monday to talk with fellow officers.
