STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board met for their August meeting last night where updated discussion was held about a reorganization of district boundaries on the east side of the district.
The district had earlier engaged with the Faith School District about the possible organization that would place those central and east Meade County schools within the Faith District.
This would have entailed the transfer of $297,000,000 in valuation surrounding the Opal, Hereford, Elm Springs and Central Meade County Schools.
The board learned that the Faith School Board at their July meeting voted not to pursue the reorganization, leading organizers of the proposal to approach the Wall School Board about the same idea as presented to Faith School Board.
Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt says the Meade 46-1 School Board will need to decide if they want to discuss this option with Wall or possibly, the New Underwood School Boards, in the future.
The board Monday night also approved several bus route change requests, approved a $6,500.00 contingency transfer within the FY27 Capital Outlay Budget for the purchase of seven milk coolers for the Food Service Department and received the 2027-2028 budget timeline from Business Manager Brett Burdit.
