Monica (Kosters) Kjerstad, age 73, of Rapid City, SD, passed away peacefully in her home on March 18, 2026. She was born on January 20, 1953, to Leander and Bernie (Litschewski) Kosters in Mobridge, SD. She grew up in Selby, SD where she graduated from high school. After graduation she moved to Rapid City, SD and attended National College of Business. She married Roger Delzer on February 9, 1974, and divorced in 1981. She married Don Kjerstad November 18, 1983. Monica was a jack of all trades. There wasn’t a project she couldn’t tackle or a thing she could not paint. She was a gifted cake designer, baker, painter, and someone who could fix just about anything from chandeliers to sinks. She was very open to life, which was reflected in how she kept her condo door literally open most of the day, making her home where conversations flowed among faith, family, and everyday living. Life was not always easy, but she still chose to stay on the sunny side. Her love of God and strong faith were a steady foundation and a source of strength. She will be deeply missed and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her for her laughter and sharp quick wit.
Monica is survived by her husband Don; son Randy (Emily) Delzer; stepchildren Heather (Jake Goodhue) Kjerstad, Rob (Allecia) Kjerstad and Heidi Kjerstad and grandchildren Kael and Charlie Delzer, Wilson Goodhue, Louise and Leah Anne Kjerstad, Evelyn and Reinholt Quillan and Sarah Vigil.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Denae, and step-grandson Jalon Janke (3-22-26). Upon her request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
