STURGIS, S.D. – Law enforcement has released the names of those involved in a fatal crash in Sturgis Tuesday.

Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says the driver of the stolen pickup truck that caused the crash was identified as 50-year-old Don Crisafulli of Sturgis. He was taken by life-flight to a Rapid City Hospital in critical condition.

Vandewater says as of Thursday, he was no longer in critical condition and was improving. Charges are pending against him.

The driver of the car that was struck by Crisafulli was identified as 26-year-old Egon Lake of Whitewood. Lake died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Sturgis Police, along with the Highway Patrol, are investigating the crash in which Crisafulli allegedly fled from police in a stolen pickup truck at a high rate of speed and collided with the car that Lake was driving on Lazelle Street.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The crash shut down Lazelle Street for several hours.
