STURGIS, S.D. – Progressive American Flat Track will bring two national championship races to the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club during the 86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Motorsports fans traveling through the Black Hills can catch the Caterpillar Jackpine Gypsies Super TT on Saturday, Aug. 8, followed by the Caterpillar Jackpine Gypsies Short Track on Monday, Aug. 10. The two standalone events serve as Rounds 12 and 13 of the 16-round Grand National Championship season, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.
Two NASCAR legends will serve as Grand Marshals for the events. Mike Skinner, the inaugural 1995 NASCAR Truck Series champion, will serve as Grand Marshal for Saturday’s Super TT. Rusty Wallace, 1989 NASCAR Cup Series champion and NASCAR Hall of Fame member, will serve as Grand Marshal for Monday’s Short Track.
Saturday’s Super TT features a mixed-surface track of dirt and asphalt, right-hand turns, and multiple jumps. Once Saturday’s event concludes, track crews using Caterpillar equipment will remove the jumps and reshape the racing surface into a compact dirt oval for Monday night’s Short Track under the lights.
The two races in three days create key opportunities for riders in both the Mission AFT SuperTwins and KICKER AFT Singles divisions. In the SuperTwins standings, only 11 points separate leaders Kody Kopp, Dallas Daniels, and Briar Bauman. In the Singles class, defending champion Tom Drane holds a 45-point advantage over Chase Saathoff.
Flat track racing has been a centerpiece of the Sturgis Rally since the inaugural event in 1938. Last season’s Short Track Main Event saw the top two title contenders collide and go down, adding recent history and extra tension to this year’s return.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. MDT both days at the Jackpine Gypsies venue, located at 1216 Short Track Road in Sturgis. Paddock access is included with every ticket, and children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Young riders will also compete in a STRIDER Kids Race prior to opening ceremonies.
Both events will stream live on FloRacing. Broadcast coverage on FOX Sports is scheduled to premiere Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11:30 a.m. ET for the Super TT, and Sunday, Aug. 23, at noon ET for the Short Track.
