RAPID CITY, SD-Rapid Transit System (RTS) has launched a new public app service designed to assist Rapid City residents with their public transportation experience.
The new service offers an interactive map providing RapidRide passengers with important route information such as individual bus stop locations, stop times and estimated arrivals. The information is laid atop a map of Rapid City where users can view all six color-coded routes or focus on individual segments of the system.
The interactive map also provides essential notices to riders, including holiday closures, deviation times and photos of specific stops. RTS customers can access the new tool through the Rapid Ride public app website.
“We’ve added some new features in recent months to allow our riders access to important route information in a quicker, easier-to-use format,” said RTS Manager Megan Gould. “All of the important information a rider may need is presented on the interactive map.”
Gould noted that the city is seeing consistent increases in usage of the public transit system.
“Offering services such as the interactive map allows us to place our information at the fingertips of the rider, so they can access our services in the most efficient manner possible,” Gould said.
RTS officials worked with the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division over several months to develop the application. The GIS Division provides mapping services, data and technical support to the City of Rapid City, Pennington County and the general public.
