RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 21-year-old Nebraska man is in custody in Rapid City after pointing a rifle at another person inside a vehicle and attempting to flee from officers on foot.
At approximately 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 9, police were dispatched to the 3700 block of Arizona Street in Rapid City to investigate a report of an assault with a weapon. Upon making contact with the reporting party, officers determined that Kendrell Cuveas, 21, of Rushville, Nebraska, was inside a vehicle when he pointed a rifle at another occupant.
Police learned the vehicle had driven off with Cuveas still inside. A short time later, officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near 5th Street and Stumer Road in Rapid City.
When the vehicle came to a stop, Cuveas fled on foot. Police pursued him until Cuveas tripped and fell to the ground. Officers then detained him at Taser-point and took him into custody.
A search of the vehicle turned up an AR-15 style rifle in the area where Cuveas had been sitting.
Cuveas was arrested for Aggravated Assault and Obstruction before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
