HOT SPRINGS, SD — This week, rumors circulated following the news of planned repairs to the spillway dam of Angostura Reservoir. The surrounding Angostura recreation area is a mainstay in the Black Hills and sees upwards of 500,000 visitors per year who come for the hiking, fishing, and birdwatching (and more) which the area provides in abundance. With the majority of South Dakota’s industry being tourism, it’s an understandable worry among Black Hills locals that any site such as that be under maintenance during peak tourism season.

However, rumors in this case appear at this time to be unfounded.

Tribal One, the contractors for the repair operation did not comment when sent an inquiry on the subject, however Nick Harrington of South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks stated “That would not be my understanding, the lake is still doing normal irrigation operations,” And that to his knowledge there were no plans to drain the reservoir for the repairs.
