RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education confirmed that the seats representing Area 4 and Area 5 will remain unchanged following the current election cycle, as both positions drew no challengers.

Incumbent board members Christine Stephenson, representing Area 4, and Walter Swan, representing Area 5, each successfully submitted petitions for re-election. Because they faced no opposition, both will continue to serve their respective areas for another three-year term without a formal vote in the upcoming municipal election.

The lack of opposition ensures a level of continuity for the district as it navigates ongoing educational initiatives and fiscal planning. Stephenson and Swan have been active participants in recent board decisions affecting the Rapid City community.

“The RCAS Board of Education appreciates the continued commitment of its members and their dedication to serving students, families, and the community,” district officials said in a statement regarding the uncontested races.

The board consists of seven members who represent specific geographic areas within the district. Members are tasked with setting policy, overseeing the budget, and hiring the superintendent for the state’s second-largest school district.
