This weekend, the immersive sounds of Pink Floyd return to the Black Hills as Pinky and the Floyd takes the stage for a powerful two-night performance at The 707 Sports Bar & Nightlife Venue. The Bozeman-based tribute act will perform Wish You Were Here in its entirety in honor of the album’s 50th anniversary—along with a full set of fan favorites spanning the legendary band’s vast catalog.
For saxophonist and vocalist Jake Fleming, the return to Rapid City is more than just another stop on the tour—it’s a full-circle moment.
“I’ve been trying to get there for years,” Fleming said. “I’m a Rapid City boy. I grew up there, and it’s thrilling to be returning with this music because it was in that town, driving around in my car in high school, that I found Pink Floyd myself.”
Fleming, a 1992 graduate of Central High School, reflected on how his South Dakota roots and musical education shaped his connection to the band’s work.
“Every symphony in the world plays Bach and Mozart—and in rock, I think Pink Floyd deserves the same treatment,” he explained. “This music is timeless. It’s up to rock musicians to curate it, play it, and keep it alive for new generations.”
A Tribute with Heart and Soul
Pinky and the Floyd formed nearly 15 years ago in Bozeman, Montana, after a few local musicians decided to open for another tribute act. The group’s chemistry was undeniable, and over the years, they’ve evolved into one of the most respected Pink Floyd tributes in the nation—balancing note-for-note precision with genuine creativity.
“We never wanted to just rest on the hits,” Fleming said. “We design setlists and shows that reflect the eras of the band, and we like to blend accuracy with our own expression. There’s always a little spontaneity and improvisation in there—that’s part of what made Pink Floyd great in the first place.”
The band’s signature sound combines lush vocal harmonies, dynamic lighting, and cinematic visuals to re-create the scale and emotion of Pink Floyd’s live performances. Yet, what truly sets them apart is their commitment to authenticity and community.
“It’s been life-enriching,” Fleming shared. “We’ve grown up in this band—through marriages, kids, losses, and everything in between. It’s a family, and the music continues to connect us.”
Passing the Torch
Fleming said one of the most inspiring parts of performing Pink Floyd’s music today is seeing younger audiences connect with it.
“I look down from the stage and see people in their twenties—sometimes even teenagers—singing every lyric,” he said. “It blows me away. Someone’s passing this music on, and it’s amazing to see.”
For the Wish You Were Here 50th Anniversary show, fans can expect the full album performed front to back, plus deep cuts and hits from across the Pink Floyd universe—from The Wall to Dark Side of the Moon and beyond.
