RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Salvation Army is inviting the community to come together for a day of fun and games for a great cause. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Main Street Square will host Play It Forward 2026, a family-friendly fundraising event designed to raise awareness and vital funds for local families in need of utility assistance.

Organized in partnership with Main Street Square, HomeSlice Media, and Black Hills Energy, the afternoon promises an array of outdoor activities for participants of all ages in Rapid City.

“Play It Forward is designed to bring our community together for a day of fun and connection while supporting an incredibly important cause,” said spokesperson Dan Boss, Black Hills Area Coordinator for The Salvation Army. “The funds raised during this event will directly help local families stay safe, warm, and secure in their homes by providing assistance with essential utilities.”

Event Schedule and Activities

Registration begins at 10 a.m., and attendees and participating families can check in at the main registration table located near the Main Street Square grass area. Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun will kick off the event at 11 a.m., and the festivities will conclude at 3 p.m.

Highlights of the afternoon include:

  • Putt-Putt on the Plaza: A temporary miniature golf course will be set up directly on the lush grass area of Main Street Square.
  • Cornhole Tournament and Street Games: To accommodate eight simultaneous cornhole games, 6th Street will be temporarily closed from just past the parking garage to Main Street, creating a safe, pedestrian-friendly zone for players and spectators.
  • Local Food Trucks: Attendees can grab a bite from two to three local food trucks parked in the alleyway between the parking garage and Main Street Square.

Supporting the Rapid City Community

All money raised during the event stays local. To maximize the community impact, Black Hills Energy will match donations up to $10,000 for this event.
