RAPID CITY, SD — In a statement this morning, Assistant Chief of Police Scott Sitts confirmed that no presence of an explosive device was found in Rapid City Regional airport.
The threat came off of reports the FAA received, made against US airports, including Rapid City Regional Airport, at around 8 AM yesterday. However, “Law enforcement, including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with airport personnel and the Transportation Security Administration assessed the information and determined the threat was not credible,” Said Sitts, “It was learned that similar unsubstantiated threats had been reported at other airports across the country”.
Police conducted a search as a safety precaution following this determination, and reportedly found no harmful materials which could endanger the safety of any member of the public. In the report following, the RCPD states that they have forwarded their conclusion and relevant information to the FBI for further investigation.
