RAPID CITY, S.D. – A waterline leak discovered Saturday evening on Audubon Circle has city crews preparing for upcoming repair work that could impact local residents and a nearby school.

While water is not currently surfacing on the street, it is actively running into the storm drain from underground. Officials indicate that further excavation may be required to address the issue.

The affected area includes Rapid City Stevens High School, the Church of the Hills, and several apartment complexes, duplexes, and residences. Repair crews are scheduled to begin work on Monday at 8 a.m. and will contact affected properties as early as possible.
At this time, there are no water disruptions or traffic restrictions in the affected areas. Residents and commuters should expect impacts when repairs begin Monday morning. Water service at Rapid City Stevens High School is expected to be maintained during the repair process.

The priority efforts on Monday will focus entirely on repairing the waterline leak. Because the project requires fixes to the water main, it will also impact the storm sewer drain inlet and piping. To minimize disruption, final asphalt road restoration, concrete curb repairs, and sidewalk fixes will likely be delayed until school has been let out for the summer.

City representatives stated that updates will be provided when available. Drivers are advised to use extra caution when traveling through the work areas in Rapid City.
