RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man was arrested late Tuesday night after threatening law enforcement officers with a large metal rod when they responded to a disturbance call on Atlas Street.
At around 9:30 p.m. on May 13, Rapid City police were dispatched to an apartment at 1330 Atlas Street for a report of an in-progress disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers knocked on the door of the residence. A female inside told police to enter. When officers opened the door, they encountered a male subject standing in the entryway holding a large metal rod over his head and threatening officers with it.
Officers issued multiple commands ordering the man to drop the object. The male refused to comply, at which point a responding officer deployed a Taser. The man then began complying with officer commands and was safely secured in handcuffs.
In accordance with department policy, a medical unit was called to evaluate the man. He was identified as 43-year-old Benjamin Longwolf of Rapid City.
Longwolf was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement and several outstanding warrants before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
