RAPID CITY, SD — Police arrested a man yesterday following reports of a disturbance at the O’Reilly Auto Parts located at 415 E. North Street.
The call, which resulted in the dispatch of officers from the RCPD led to the encounter of a male subject outside of the building at around 4:20pm. Said subject “began approaching the first responding officer’s vehicle with his hands in his pockets,” according to a report released by Brendyn Medina. The man was ordered to remove his hands from his pockets, doing so while reportedly brandishing a knife at an officer.
After reportedly ignoring orders to drop the weapon, another officer arrived on-scene and shot the man with a less-than-lethal sponge round in the leg, allowing an opportunity to detain the individual, who was identified as 43-year-old John Feather of Lead. According to police, Feather was removed from the scene by medical staff, and was later arrested under “two counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, and Failure to Vacate,” being subsequently taken to the Pennington County Jail.
