RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 35-year-old Rapid City man was arrested after allegedly threatening a motorist with a knife at an intersection and driving to a nearby fast-food lane, police said.

Officers were dispatched at around 11:20 p.m. Aug. 11 to the area of Interstate 90 and Haines Avenue for a report of an unknown suspect who had threatened a driver.

After speaking with witnesses, police determined the victim was stopped at a traffic light at the I-90 and Haines Avenue intersection when the suspect approached the vehicle and began yelling. The suspect then brandished a knife and stuck it through the open window of the victim’s vehicle before returning to his own car.

The suspect re-entered his vehicle and drove to a drive-through at 1911 Haines Avenue. Arriving officers located the suspect vehicle still in the drive-through lane.

When the car pulled into a nearby parking lot, law enforcement initiated a felony-level traffic stop. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle, detained, and identified as Quitan Chee, 35, of Rapid City.

Officers located a knife inside the vehicle during the stop.

Chee was arrested for Aggravated Assault Intimidation and Driving without a Valid License, then transported to the Pennington County Jail. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
