RAPID CITY, S.D. – Mayor Jason Salamun has selected Carla Cushman as Rapid City’s next city attorney, subject to confirmation by the Rapid City Common Council at its June 1 meeting.
Cushman has been serving as interim city attorney since April 1, following the departure of long-time city attorney Joel Landeen.
“Carla Cushman has earned the opportunity to serve as the next City Attorney for Rapid City,” Salamun said. “She is a dedicated and experienced attorney who is a true professional, solid leader, and respected public servant. Rapid City is in good hands with her as City Attorney.”
Salamun said the recommendation came after a detailed search that began in early April.
Cushman is a graduate of Augustana College and the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law. She has been with the City Attorney’s Office in Rapid City since 2012.
