RAPID CITY, S.D. – The City of Rapid City has opened additional locations for residents to dispose of tree debris following a significant wind storm that impacted the region on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025.

In an effort to assist with cleanup efforts, city officials are directing residents to the Rapid City Landfill, as well as two temporary remote sites located at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North. These remote locations will remain available to the public through Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.

City officials noted that the remote disposal sites are strictly for residential tree debris. Any other household items or materials damaged during the storm must be transported directly to the Rapid City Landfill. Residents are also asked to take large trees to the landfill to preserve space for smaller limbs and branches at the temporary neighborhood sites.

“We understand that the wind storm damaged quite a bit of property and we hope that opening these disposal sites will provide a convenient option for those cleaning up after the wind storm and into the post-Christmas season,” said Mayor Jason Salamun.

The initiative aims to streamline the recovery process for neighborhoods across Rapid City, South Dakota, as homeowners begin assessing property damage from the high-wind event.

Residents with specific questions regarding disposal guidelines or site hours can contact the City of Rapid City’s Solid Waste Division at 605-355-3496.
