RAPID CITY, S.D. – One week from today, some of the familiar sights and sounds of summer will begin to be seen and heard in Rapid City – kids and families splashing in the water, familiar tunes playing overhead, parents bathing their children in sunscreen and the extended tweet of the lifeguard’s whistle signaling it’s time to get into the pool.

The Rapid City Recreation Division has announced the opening dates for the city’s outdoor pools. The 50-meter outdoor pool at Roosevelt Park Swim Center is set to open next Friday, May 22, with the pools at Horace Mann, Parkview and Jimmy Hilton Sioux Park slated to open May 30.

City pools at Parkview, Horace Mann and Jimmy Hilton will be open from noon to 6 p.m. daily, except on July 4 when all city pools will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Roosevelt’s 50-meter outdoor pool will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5:30 p.m. Sundays.

Daily swim passes are $8 for adults and youth, and $7 for senior citizens 62 years and older. Twenty-punch passes are also available for adults, youth, seniors and families.

“We’ve had our fair share of warm days already this spring and with school out for the summer, we’re ready to go,” said City Recreation Specialist Teaghan Slagle. “We have another great group of lifeguards and staff, the pools are filled and ready for swimmers.”

“We have scheduled several special feature nights that will be a lot of fun,” Slagle added.
