RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department’s Community Engagement Team has several community events planned in the coming weeks, including activities in the Norwood and Star Village neighborhoods.

Project Manager Jamie Kirsch said the department is hosting Water Wednesdays in the Norwood neighborhood. “We’re right off of North Maple,” Kirsch said, adding that the event includes slip-and-slides, pools and a barbecue. “Everybody from the community is welcome to come join us. It’s really just about connecting with your neighbors and getting to know one another and creating those fun summer memories.”

Kirsch also said the department’s final three-on-three basketball tournament of the season will be held Thursday during Live on the Lawn. Signups begin at 4 p.m., and youth of any age are welcome to bring a team and participate. She said the department will also have prizes available for participants.

The Community Engagement Team will also host its Neighbors Helping Neighbors event in Star Village on Aug. 8 in partnership with Fountain Springs Church. Kirsch said volunteers will help with a large trash cleanup, mow lawns, clean out garages and host water activities for children. “We’re doing a large trash cleanup. We’re helping mow lawns, we’re helping clean out garages, and we’re hosting a little fun water activity for the kids and handing out popsicles,” Kirsch said.
