RAPID CITY, S.D. – A school bus was spotted in a ditch on Moon Meadows in Rapid City today as drivers practiced their routes ahead of the school year.
No students were on board the bus during the incident.
The Rapid City Area School District addressed the occurrence in a statement on its official Facebook page, explaining that practice runs are meant to help drivers prepare for full operations.
“You may see our school buses out and about as drivers practice their routes and get ready for the school year,” the Rapid City Area School District shared. “We’re aware that one bus backed up a little farther than intended during practice. That’s exactly why we practice: to learn the routes, work through the details, and make sure our drivers are ready to safely transport students when school begins.”
School district representatives encouraged members of the Rapid City community to show encouragement to drivers as training continues.
“If you see one of our buses out practicing, be sure to give the driver a friendly wave to show your support!” the district stated.
