RAPID CITY – Rapid City Area Schools will soon see a major upgrade to its career and technical education offerings following a $223,830 boost from the state.

The South Dakota Department of Education awarded the Workforce Education Grant to the district to modernize and expand the Culinary Arts program at Stevens High School. Rapid City is one of only four districts in the state to receive the funding this year.

The grant is designed to renovate the existing classroom at Stevens into an industry-aligned environment. Improvements will feature industry-grade equipment and resources, allowing students to pursue professional certifications and gain practical experience.

“We are excited to receive these funds to support the renovation of our Culinary Arts classroom at Stevens High School,” said Bobbie Jo Donovan. “This project will transform an outdated space into a modern, industry-aligned learning environment where students can engage in authentic, hands-on experiences. By providing access to industry-grade equipment, certifications, and real-world applications, we are better preparing our students to graduate ready for college, careers, and life.”

According to the South Dakota Department of Education, these grants serve to strengthen ties between local school districts, postsecondary institutions, and industry leaders. The program focuses on career and technical education initiatives that align directly with current workforce needs.
