RAPID CITY, S.D. – The F.A.A. is improving communications for air traffic controllers at Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) with new IP-based Voice Communication Systems, also known as ‘voice switches’.

Aviation officials say this is the 140th voice switch installed across the National Airspace System.

These will replace the analog systems from the 1990s and enable controllers to more easily switch channels and connect faster than ever before.

Officials at Rapid City Regional Airport say that means improved communication with aircraft, adjacent facilities and internal phone systems.

Rapid City Regional Airport continues to see growth, with expansion construction currently underway along with growing passenger numbers.
