RAPID CITY, SD—Effective this week, the yard waste and recycling containers located adjacent to Fitzgerald Stadium will be removed for several days for the Dave Ploof Legacy baseball tournament.

Containers will be removed Wednesday for the American Legion baseball tournament. Containers will return on Monday, July 13.

In February, the City Council approved a request from the Rapid City Sports Commission to remove the yard waste and recycling containers from the remote yard waste site located adjacent to Fitzgerald Stadium during four baseball tournaments scheduled for the summer baseball season. It is the fourth consecutive season the containers have been removed to provide additional parking for the tournaments, which draw large audiences.

The City Council approved removing the containers for the Veterans Classic June 4-7, the Firecracker Tournament July 1-5, the Dave Ploof Legacy Tournament July 9-12, and the State Tournament July 26-August 2. The removal dates include a day or two before and after the tournaments to allow for removal of the containers, cleanup of the area and resetting of the containers.

During the temporary closure of the Fitzgerald Stadium remote site, the public is advised to drop off materials at the Nickel Street site, at the Rapid City Landfill or schedule drop off of materials before or after the tournament periods.
