RAPID CITY, S.D. – Local residents will have an opportunity to pool their charitable contributions to support community organizations during the upcoming Rushmore Rotary Giving Circle event in Rapid City.

The event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Central States Fairgrounds Fine Arts Building in Rapid City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the event running from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m..

Each participant contributes $100, which allows them to vote for one of three local nonprofit organizations: Reservation Outreach, South Dakota Service Dogs, and Da Coda Instruments. Representatives from each group will give a short presentation detailing what their organization does and how they plan to use the funds.

At the end of the evening, the organization with the most votes will receive 80 percent of all money donated. The other two organizations will each receive 10 percent.

“Giving Circle is the power of people coming together with a shared purpose,” said Toni Owan, who is part of the Rushmore Rotary committee planning the event. “It’s grassroots giving – simple, meaningful and impactful.”

“When we each give a little, together we can create a lasting impact and strengthen the nonprofits that make our community a better place for everyone,” Owan said.

The public event will also feature free live music, food trucks, and a cash bar.

Rotary is an international society of more than 1.4 million people striving to generate global, communal, and personal change. Rotary District 5610 includes more than 41 clubs serving South Dakota, northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and northeast Nebraska.
