RAPID CITY, SD – Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun has selected Scott Anderson as Rapid City’s director of the Parks and Recreation Department. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Rapid City Common Council, which will take up the mayor’s appointment at the November 2 meeting.
Anderson replaces Jeff Biegler, who retired in September.
Anderson has served as Rapid City Parks Division Manager since 2017, providing oversight of the City’s parks, facilities, urban forest, cemetery and park rangers. He joined the City of Rapid City in 2009, serving eight years as park maintenance supervisor.
“Scott brings over seventeen years of dedicated experience with the City of Rapid City, having served as the Parks Division Manager since 2017. Scott is committed to rising to the challenge to take things to the next level in Parks and Recreation,” Salamun said. “He is providing excellent leadership and oversight of our city parks, facilities, the urban forest, cemeteries, and park rangers, and managing substantial budgets and capital improvement projects.”
Anderson’s background includes more than 30 years of supervisory experience and business ownership in landscape contracting and nursery operations, alongside professional credentials as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional and Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
Anderson is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in landscape design. He grew up in Newell and is a graduate of Newell High School. Anderson’s appointment is the culmination of a two-month selection process which included numerous interviews and input from a search committee.
