RAPID CITY, S.D. – A handful of small wildfires were reported yesterday as fire crews face red flag warning fire conditions.
The Buffalo Fire was reported in the East Gate/Wildlife Loop area of Custer State Park. Ground crews reported that the fire was burning in grass and timber with 2 – to – 4 foot flame lengths and a moderate spread potential.
Multiple ground resources were called to the blaze along with air support that helped crews stop the forward progress of the fire as of Wednesday night.
The blaze had burned an approximate 2 acres.
Rapid City area fire crews quickly contained another fire Wednesday night named the Boulder Hill Fire.
It was located southwest of Rapid City north of Rockerville off Boulder Hill Road. The fire was contained at less than an acre.
And, the Duck Fire was reported overnight in southern Fall River County, just north of the Nebraska border.
That fire was listed at 100 acres this morning and was still being fought.
In the pan-handle of Nebraska, there are multiple new fire starts south of Chadron along Table Road to West Ash road area in the timber.
Multiple fire departments along with U.S. Forest Service, Dawes County Roads, Nebraska Game and Parks, and many ranchers and farmers are helping to try and control the fires.
