FT. PIERRE, SD — On December 23, 2025, former Rapid City news anchor Shad Olson was issued a warrant calling for his arrest. This warrant followed a plea deal which had been reached earlier that year, suspending sentencing on charges resulting from a 2024 domestic abuse incident.

Last Thursday this warrant was carried out, and Olson has been brought into custody in Stanley County. According to available information he has a court date set for Meade County on the 24th of March.

As part of his agreement in 2025, Olson was commanded by the court to meet three criteria: To pay court fees, provide proof of a clean alcohol evaluation, and provide proof of a completed anger management course. All three of these he has failed to comply with, according to Tanner Jackson, Meade County’s Deputy State Attorney.

On February 18th Olson’s lawyer motioned to withdraw from his representation of Olson, following a failure to reach the former Anchor “despite numerous attempts to make or maintain contact”. It is unknown whether Olson has received new representation at this current time.

Correction: While the article originally implied Olson remained detained at the jail, he has in reality been released and is pending a March 24th Court date.
