LEAD, S.D. – The Lead Volunteer Fire Department were among those responding to an accident that happened Wednesday night.
At approximately 8:30 PM on Wednesday, June 17th, the Lead Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Richmond Hill Road on a report of a side-by-side accident with a possible entrapped patient and a broken leg.
Due to limited cell phone coverage and initial dispatch information, fire department personnel initiated an educated search to locate the victim.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a single side-by-side had rolled with a patient still inside. Using the Hurst Jaws of Life Cutters, firefighters safely removed the windshield, roof, and a small portion of the roll cage to free the patient. Once freed, the patient was met by an ambulance crew, evaluated for injuries, and later transported to Lead-Deadwood Monument Health Hospital.
Lead Units: Rescue 4 and Squad 7 responded to the incident.
Assisting Agencies were the Monument Health Northern Hills Ambulance and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
