RAPID CITY, S.D. – Local soccer club officials hope action at community soccer fields will get a lot brighter later this fall.

Rapid City’s Public Works Committee will consider an agenda item Tuesday on behalf of the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department, authorizing an agreement with Musco Sports Lighting to install field lighting at the Cambell Street soccer fields.

The project is one of 14 Vision Fund projects approved for funding by the Rapid City Council in June 2025.  The field lighting project on behalf of the Ignite Soccer Club would install four light poles with LED lighting. The project request is for $104,900 with $70,000 coming from the Vision Fund and the remainder from the City Parks CIP fund. Rapid City Parks and Rec will also be investing an additional $60,000 in Parks CIP funds for a new electrical service line to the Cambell Street complex.  Additional installation efforts will be completed by the Ignite soccer organization.

Musco will also be installing additional lights this September at the Dakota Fields Soccer Complex, home of the Black Hills Rapids. Last October, the Rapid City Council approved a $500,000 contribution and an additional $500,000 loan to Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club as part of a multi-million upgrade to the complex, including installation of lights on four fields among other complex enhancements.
