RAPID CITY, SD — Solid Waste officials will provide an update on service adjustments and changes taking effect this Friday, May 1, hosting a demonstration and display at a residence Wednesday morning (tomorrow) at 9 a.m.  The update and demonstration will be held at 4734 Baldwin Street.

As a reminder, various adjustments are being made to customers subscribing to Rapid City Solid Waste trash and recycling collection services.

A summary of the updated services:

•  Residential recycling collection will transition to an every-other-week schedule. Beginning next Monday (May 4), customers will continue to receive service on their regular collection day with Monday/Wednesday/Friday customers on the first and third weeks of each month, Tuesday and Thursday customers on the second and fourth weeks of the month.

•  Beginning this Friday (May 1), the City will no longer collect yard waste placed in brown paper bags at the curb. Yard waste collection will only be provided through a new subscription-based container service. Containers will be delivered to those that sign up at the end of April. Yard waste can be placed loose in the container, material does not need to be placed in a brown paper bag.

•  The new seasonal yard waste subscription service will be available to residents beginning this Friday (May 1). This optional service allows for convenient curbside collection of yard waste materials. Curbside yard waste service will begin next Monday (May 4). The service includes a monthly fee of $15 plus applicable tax and a container fee of $100 refundable upon return of the container in acceptable condition. The yard waste collection service occurs on the customer’s regular service day from May 1-November 30 and enrollment in the service constitutes a commitment through the end of the current yard waste season (November 30).

Residents interested in subscribing to the yard waste service must contact the Solid Waste Division to request service. Once enrolled, a yard waste container will be delivered to the residence.

•  The large yard waste containers will be placed at the remote sites at Fitzgerald Stadium and Nickel Street this Friday (May 1).
